Due to the much-discussed climate challenges and the sharply rising energy prices, it is now a necessity to reconsider your consumption of electricity to optimize and save where you can. For many companies, this is extra necessary, as they often have many electrical devices, many of which are turned on even when not in use. This can be both a relic from a time when it did not mean so much financially because of the significantly lower energy prices, and partly because you do not have a system that can control it, and it, therefore, requires resources in the form of man-hours to make sure that everything is turned on and off at the right times. But there is now a solution to that.
How the module works
DM PowerControl makes it possible to eliminate the use of unnecessary power by switching off electrical devices when they are not needed. It works in the way, that the system uses the Wi-Fi control relays, which can be built into existing appliances in a few minutes, or as an intermediary between the appliance and the socket. You can also install a relay in an electrical panel and thus control the connection on an installation.
A unique option with DM PowerControl is that it comes with a temperature sensor. This sensor is both waterproof and can withstand temperatures from -55° to +120° C. and can therefore be used in many environments. This means that the system can collect data regarding the temperature in e.g. a refrigerator. This allows the system to switch the connection on and off based on the temperature data obtained.
Since DM PowerControl is FileMaker-based, it can be customized to your specific needs. It should also be mentioned that the system can be integrated with event calendars and thus allow for a unique timer function. This makes it possible to turn the electronic devices on and off at predetermined times – i.e. not necessarily at the same time every day. This can be a fantastic option if, for example, you are holding meetings, as these are typically not held at the same time every day. However, it does not necessarily have to be meeting times that constitute the criteria.
DM PowerControl can be set up with the criteria that make sense for you. At the same time, the criteria/automatics can be overruled if another temporary need arises. This can be done through a control panel, which provides both overview and optimal control. The control panel can be created separately or connected to your existing FileMaker solution. In this way, both the actual and the accumulated power consumption over time can be monitored. To make it even more easy and accessible, it can be set up so that it can be accessed from, for example, an iPhone, if desired.
In the real world
Another criterion could be the times of events at a venue. Such venues often have several refrigerators with various drinks in them. These should preferably be cold when served to guests. This requires lighted refrigerators, but refrigerators are expensive to keep running. Therefore, there is a lot to gain by turning off the refrigerators when there are no events.
Since these events are not held every day, or for that matter at the same time of day every time, it can be a costly affair in man-hours to manage when to turn on and off. DM PowerControl can do this.
By integrating the system with the venue’s event calendar, it runs all by itself. At the same time, the system keeps an eye on the refrigerators to ensure that they never get too hot, as it will then take too long and be too expensive to cool down again. That way, the venue is always sure to have cold drinks ready for guests when an event starts, while saving money on the electricity bill.
